Welcome to the Karl Sharp Photographics website.
I am a photographer based in Sydney, Australia.
Karl is an up-and-coming young photographer, with a background in the graphic arts industry.
Karl
worked in the industry for 14 years prior to changing his career and becoming a full time photographer in 2001.
It
was in the graphic arts industry where Karl received his formal training, which he later complemented with additional training
in photography, digital technology and design.
Karl has had a lifelong interest in photography (beginning with
quirky shots taken as a ten-year old) and decided to pursue photography as a full time career, spurred on by some initial
success with his exhibition “Images of India” at the Hester Gallery in Newtown in 1998.
Karl's special photographic interest lies in documenting city life,
its people and its architecture.
Most of his personal work is taken in black & white, focusing
on seemingly unusual coincidences and collisions of people and their creations - be they buildings, objects, environments
or social occasions. These images to Karl are simply realities that often escape our perceptions as the result of the increasingly
"busy" contemporary life most of us lead.
His business, Karl
Sharp Photographics, commenced in January 2001, mainly
focusing on the architecture and construction industries.
Other aspects of his work include commercial photography and events,
both for private and government clients.
Karl
has been continuing to gain in recognition through purchases
of his photographs by the NSW State Library, National Library
of Australia and the Australian War Memorial.
